In May 2023 two men were jailed for five years each for conspiring to sell Anglo-Saxon coins the judge pronounced confident were part of the Herefordshire Hoard. Their plan to sell the coins abroad which the judge viewed as an aggravating factor to their crime had it succeeded would have deprived the UK of the treasure. We await further developments to learn if the coins are deemed part of the Hoard and will then discuss with colleagues the scope for fundraising to acquire more of the Hoard.
