AGM Monday 8th September 2025

Many thanks to members and guests who attended our AGM on Monday 8th September.

Our business was concluded and then we welcomed our new trustee, Elizabeth Pimblett, who is coming full circle in that the original idea was hers for a support group or friends collective for the Museum Service. She has already been persuaded to be one of the speakers at our second autumn event in late October and we hope to see many of you there at HARC. Details on how to book on our Events page shortly.

Details already on our site for the first event on Monday 22nd September also at HARC. Our speakers will cover the highlights of the Arts collections held in Hereford at History Store, and also Hellens Manor, story of the house and the art gallery to be built in the grounds.

Damian Etheraads gave us a very useful run down on the variety of projects he and the team, led by Kate Riddington, are running or preparing to begin, all intended to open up access to the collections to a wide audience. Work goes on behind the scenes by the team to ensure that by the time doors open in 2027 at the redeveloped Museum and Art Gallery, there should only be a short list of people who do not have the knowledge of or an opportunity to engage with the county collections in Broad Street, near where they live or work, or online.

We also presented our long standing previous Chair, Jane Adams, with small gifts to show our appreciation for all she has done for HMSSG, and her links with archives and libraries support leads which made such a difference in the period when budget cuts by then then Council threatened to decimate heritage and cultural assets in Herefordshire. Jane’s involvement in so many aspects of heritage services in the last few years has made a difference to the anticipated future for these life’s essentials. We are pleased that Jane remains with us as a Trustee and ambassador for HMSSG.

We hope to see you soon at one of our events or out and about, generally enjoying what’s on offer in this lively county.

Do come and say hello at any local events where you see any of our Trustees or Committee members and also encourage your friends to join us. Membership is very good value. All details on the cost, and the methods by which to pay for membership, on the Join Us section of our website.

Donations to HMSSG are most welcome. These help us to keep running, and supporting the cause of Herefordshire Museums and Galleries in enhancing our lives.
